  • Overview

    CO-OP Financial Services provides technically superior products and services to financial institutions across the nation. We are seeking a talented Corporate Controller to be responsible for managing and supervising the activities the accounting department, assist with budget planning and ensure the organization adheres to General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Candidate will be a strategic player of CO-OP’s management team

     

    What your day will look like: 

    • Manages the selection, performance management, coaching, and development of the accounting staff.
    • Reviews consolidated financial statements on a monthly basis, and ensures his team’s completion and review of all account reconciliations for compliance and accuracy with US GAAP.
    • Ensures the accuracy and integrity of all general ledger accounts (e.g., all balance sheet accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis).
    • Improves processes and procedures constantly to increase efficiency, improves documentation, and identifies proper internal control processes to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline processes, proper segregation of duties and handle company growth.
    • Provides management team with insightful decision support/business analysis.
    • Participates in budgeting and forecasting.
    • Coordinates all audit activities, as a direct interface with external auditors and ensures all requests are provided timely and accurately.
    • Works with third party service provider on preparation of tax returns and tax planning, including review and preparation of quarterly and yearly tax work papers.
    • Performs accounting research on technical issues and prepares white papers on management position.
    • Creates processes for implementing newly acquired entities into monthly close process
    • Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.

    Qualifications

    • CPA or MBA designation, highly desirable.
    • Four year degree in accounting or finance required.
    • 10+ years of directly related experience in accounting, including a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory capacity.
    • Served in a leadership position with a strong record of career advancement.
    • Proven ability to build business relationships at all levels throughout an organization.
    • Proven track record of effectively managing/leading high performance teams.
    • Thorough understanding of US GAAP is highly desired.
    • General understanding of corporate taxation is desired.
    • Proficiency in PC based software/windows applications such as Microsoft Office products (e.g., Advance Excel and Word) is desired.
    • Experience with Great Plains Dynamics, Softrax, Microsoft Access, Monarch and FRX Report Writer a plus.
    • Self-motivated with a desire to make an impact.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and problem solving skills, as well as exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • A service oriented individual that continually challenges the status quo and focuses on continuous improvement
    • Proven record of accomplishment for successful completion of accounting guidance-related projects.
    • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks of varying complexities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong analytical skills and the ability to successfully lead teams and demonstrate leadership abilities.
    • A self-directed leader able to adapt quickly to changes in priorities and business conditions (e.g., open to new ideas, takes on new challenges, handles pressure, and adjusts plans to meet changing needs).
    • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives – brings others together and tries to reconcile differences to achieve the best outcome.
    • Ability to package financial data/information in an executive manner focused on driving business decisions.
    • Ability to understand the business, beyond finance/accounting – think strategically.

    • Flexibility and willingness to travel domestic, approximately 10-15%.
