  • Overview

    CO-OP Financial Services provides technically superior products and services to financial institutions across the nation.  We are seeking a Director of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) who will manage, coordinate, and implement the company’s vision and strategy for the ERM program, which includes the Vendor Risk Management (VRM) and Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity programs. The Director, ERM is the leader within the team who considers all inputs across the organization, and creates the short-term strategy in support of the VP, ERM’s long-term strategy. This role will be critical in the development, execution, and continuous improvement of a world class ERM Program. Their primary role is to lead the efforts to update and mature the company’s framework and practices for acknowledging, managing, and reporting risks that could materially impact the organization’s ability to achieve its strategic, financial, and operational objectives.


    • Design, implement, and continuously improve the risk program using innovative methods that utilize industry recognized ERM methods, as well as new approaches to quantifying and reporting risk in an actionable manner.
    • Create a risk model that is integrated in all business flows and decisions, and that helps inform all levels of management in business decisions.
    • Manage the ERM and VRM Programs and teams.
    • Manage the evolution, alignment, and sustainment of sound risk management practices across the organization, and further develop tools and processes for identifying, quantifying, prioritizing and acting on risks.
    • Manage the ERM framework, and update and coordinate changes to the risk entity structure, risk taxonomies, risk indicators and enterprise-wide summary risk documentation. Ensure proper linkage between the various elements of the enterprise risk process.
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure alignment to the risk framework and effective information flows.
    • Manage to the company’s risk appetite/tolerance thresholds, and recommend enhancements to the structure of the appetite statements and measurement of risk exposures.
    • Develop, enhance and deliver regular risk management metrics/reporting for senior management.
    • Manage the ongoing maintenance of risk policies, governance processes, and committee charters.
    • Manage and sponsor ERM related, and cross functional projects.
    • Serve as liaison between ERM and other departments.
    • Develop program documents (e.g. policies, standards, etc.)
    • Provide conceptual thinking and apply analytical methods to quantify risk scenarios.
    • Maintain working knowledge of information technology and how systems and applications integrate with business processes and operations, and their associated risks.
    • Oversee the organization’s Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity (DR/BC), and associated testing programs.
    • Establish and maintain trusted relationships with management and stakeholders to promote an appropriate level of engagement in ERM activities.

    • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology or related, preferred.
    • Bachelor's degree from four year college in Business or related field, required.
    • 7+ years of relevant experience in Risk Management, with at least 3 years in building and leading a program of similar complexity.
    • Background in Information Technology, with 3+ years of relevant experience as it relates to risk management and disaster recovery/business continuity programs.
    • Experience with developing and documenting internal and external program documents, including but not limited to, policies, standards, and procedures.
    • Risk assessment software program knowledge.
    • Experience in the Financial Institution or EFT industry.
    • Credit Union industry experience/knowledge.
    • Thorough knowledge of risks inherent in the financial services/payments industry and of appropriate enterprise risk management framework (e.g. ISO 31000).
    • Ability to effectively identify, document, and articulate risks and business issues to senior management.
    • Detail-oriented with strong problem solving skills and the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems, driving solutions to completion, with minimal supervision.
    • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and develop others to meet objectives.
