  • Overview

    The Chief People Officer (CPO) is a critical member of the executive management team and is responsible for developing and executing of the human resource strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization creating alignment with the mission, vision, values, goals and overall culture of CO-OP. 

     

    Responsibilities

     

    • Develop HR plans and strategies to support the achievement of the overall business operations objectives in line with our goal of developing a high-performance culture.
    • Function as a strategic business advisor and thought partner to the executive/senior management of each business unit or specialty group regarding key organizational and management issues.
    • Provide overall leadership and guidance to the HR function by overseeing talent acquisition, organizational design/effectiveness, performance management, employee relations, succession planning, retention, training, leadership development, HRIS, compensation and benefits. 
    • Operates as a senior business leader with insights and contributions to the company’s overall long term goals around the business, employee service strategy, people development, resource allocation and future direction.
    • Leading and managing medium to large scale mergers and acquisitions; managing due diligence and risk mitigation process of people, and alignment within companies. 
    • Develop internal HR capabilities to continue to build, enhance and sustain the very best culture in the industry.
    • Take oversight and drive the company’s culture, by analyzing feedback and data with the aim of creating a better working environment and a more engaged culture.
    • Monitor, enhance and analyze People Dashboard Metrics.
    • Assess, build and lead CO-OP’s innovative employee service function that supports and serves the entire company.
    • Create and manage the annual department budget.

    Qualifications

    • Master’s degree, MBA or advanced degree highly preferred.
    • Have proven strategic HR expertise and leadership experience, with a minimum of 15 years of progressive HR experience and 5+ years reporting to a CEO or Senior leader.
    • Experience leading senior leadership teams, demonstrating the ability to lead and deliver on various projects, perform well under pressure, and excel in providing reliable and clear communications.
    • One of more certifications in related HR disciplines required, i.e., PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, CCP, CBP, CEBS.
    • Experience creating alignment across a multi-site, multi-state company, bringing employees together under a cohesive culture aligned with a business strategy.
    • Experience building and scaling HR systems, programs, and processes in a complex environment, as well as outsourcing HR and managing vendors.
    • Operating and business acumen is crucial. The CPO will be an influencer in key strategic business decisions. The ability to understand company finances, resourcing and the ultimate aims of the business is important.
    • A strong working knowledge of employment law issues, best practice processes for redundancies and payroll knowledge is required.
    • Ability to coach and mentor all levels of the organization from junior colleagues to senior executives.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop people and support people management and staff across multiple locations.
    • Excellent leadership skills with proven experience supporting and partnering with business unit leaders to achieve their operational and strategic goals.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; exceptional at active listening and building trust.
    • Ability to influence others through relationship building.
    • Understand the unique challenges and tremendous opportunities associated with a rapidly growing fast-paced environment, with the ability to deal with ambiguity but equally the freedom to explore and innovate.
    • Facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
